About BSI Mangiferin
The colorful history of Mangiferin dates more than 1000 years, a mainstay of Chinese medicine, Balean medicine in Indonesia, and ethno-medicine in Cuba.
Mangiferin is scientifically known as C-glucosylxanthone
(1,3,6,7- tetrahydroxyxanthone -C2-beta- D-glucoside).
Eleven crystalline constituents have been isolated from mango, of which five were identified as:
Although mangiferin is sourced from a variety of tropical plants, the most common are mango leaves, fruit peel, seeds, and bark. BSI International manufactures “whole mangiferin” using hydro-ethanol distill-evaporation. Our exclusive method preserves and combines all available alkaloids and constituents, for inclusion in our infusions, or by oral ingestion, or both.
Mangiferin is not generally employed in mainstream medicine simply because it cannot be patented, as is the case with most other effective natural remedies. In the mainstream view, if a medicine is not patent-able, it’s not own-able, not profitable. Mangiferin extract is not exactly profitable for us, but it has helped a lot of patients with a wide variety of diseases.
Mangiferin has been reported throughout the centuries to have important and broad pharmacological activities such as:
Anti-diabetes (Muruganandan et al, 2005),
Antiviral (Zakaria et al, 2006),
Mangiferin has recently been reborn into the world of cutting-edge alternative medicine because of its numerous and widely-varied biological activities and effects.

Selected edited references from web links listed at the bottom:
Mangiferin has been reported in both ancient and modern medical texts as successfully used solely, or in conjunction with other therapies, such as:
coronary artery disease,
bronchitis and asthma,
toxic liver disease,
chronic pulmonary heart disease,
kidney toxicity disease,
light skin diseases,
burns and other skin diseases;
neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy,
premature rupture of membranes,
HIV / AIDS.
And the list is much longer....
Mangiferin is shown to have in-vivo growth-inhibitory activity against ascitic fibrosarcoma
. Treatment resulted in augmented killing of tumor cells, both resistant and sensitive to natural killer (B and T) cells.
Mangiferin was also found to antagonize the in-vitro the cytopathic effect of HIV
. The drug appears to act as a potent biological response modifier with anti-tumor and antiviral effects.
Mangiferin can pass the blood-retina barrier after a single intravenous administration,
and is a natural antioxidant in treating eye diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), cataracts, and diabetic retinopathy.
There are two major forms of diabetes, type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The former occurs when the insulin-producing ß-cells in the pancreas are destroyed, typically through an autoimmune disease. The latter is caused by a resistance to insulin combined with a failure to produce sufficient insulin. Both T1DM and T2DM would finally converge to common symptoms, such as glucose intolerance and hyperglycaemia. Hyperglycemia both in T1DM and T2DM mainly results from the loss of ß-cell mass that would lead to considerable morbidity in the world population.... 10g of mangiferin given to obese subjects over the course of 12 weeks, in addition to their regular diets, appeared to mildly reduce blood glucose (-4.1mg/dL; 4.3%) without significantly influencing body weight, lipids, or other biomarkers of glucose metabolism (HbA1c, insulin, or insulin sensitivity). Mangiferin possesses significant antidiabetic, antihyperlipidemic and antiatherogenic properties thus suggesting its beneficial effect in the treatment of diabetes mellitus
associated with hyperlipidemia and related cardiovascular complications.
Treatment of mangiferin effectively improved the dysfunctions of antioxidant enzyme activities in cardiac and renal systems
, decreasing levels of glycosylated haemoglobin and CPK in diabetic rats.
Mangiferin had been reported to show protection against CCl4 induced liver injury.
Systemic injection of mangiferin improved long term memory
(LTM)... a dose of 10mg/kg caused a significant improvement.
A recent historical reference for the successful and frequent use of mangiferin hales from Cuba, where modern medicines have been largely unavailable during the Castro regime. Specifically, the ethno-medical use of the mangiferin aqueous extract in Cuba has been widely documented and used extensively in treatment of cancer, diabetes, asthma, infertility, lupus, prostatitis, prostatic hyperplasia, gastric disorders, arthralgies, mouth sores, and tooth pain, as the more frequent diseases
(as listed above).
Non-documented verbal references from elderly Cuban people told about uses of mango extract by African slaves in Cuba since the 19th century. A documented data from more than 7 thousand patients with 84 diseases has been compiled in Cuba during the past several years. Focal studies have been done on specific diseases of relevant importance like cancer in order to evaluate disease progress and the improvement of the patient's quality of life in a six-months field trial.
84.8% of patients diminished a high depression,
82.2% of patients had a better integral evaluation,
and 89.7% of them were able to have a normal life with an average dose of 20 mg/kg body weight after oral administration (30 mL) three times a day of an aqueous
decoction of mangiferin.
The different chemical constituents of the mangiferin extract, especially the polyphenolics, flavonoids, triterpenoids, mangiferin, and other chemical compounds, are antiinflammatory, analgesic, and anti-hypoglycemic
. The study lends pharmacological credence to the suggested folkloric uses of the plant in the management and control of painful, arthritic and other inflammatory conditions, as well as in the management of adult-onset type 2 diabetes mellitus in some rural African communities.
A standard aqueous extract of mangifera indica L. is used in Cuba as an antioxidant under the brand name of VIMANG.
An antioxidative effect of mangiferin may persist in the brain following oral ingestion
. Administration of mangiferin via intraperitoneal administration at three doses (10, 50, and 100mg/kg) immediately after cognitive training in rats appears to improve memory recognition relative to control when tested a day later, with efficacy peaking at 50mg/kg and no effect when administered 6 hours after training.
The list of mangiferin benefits is long and well referenced. A quick web search may prove helpful.

Why Selling Natural Products is Such a Dangerous Business To legally market a drug (that is, any substance that can claim to cure, prevent, mitigate, or treat a disease), it must go through the lengthy and expensive FDA drug approval process. Any violation - that is, any sale of a "drug" that is not FDA-approved - can lead to seizure of the product, injunctions against its sale and distribution, and criminal penalties, including imprisonment, for the manufacturer.

The Magic Duo for Cancer Treatment That Frightens The FDA and Conventional Medicine: DMSO.Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), a by-product of the wood industry, has been in use as a commercial solvent since 1953. DMSO can carry other drugs with it across membranes. It is more successful ferrying some drugs, such as morphine sulfate, penicillin, steroids, and cortisone, than others, such as insulin. What it will carry depends on the molecular weight, shape, and electrochemistry of the molecules. This property would enable DMSO to act as a new drug delivery system that would lower the risk of infection occurring whenever skin is penetrated.
